APRS Digi Update….
Another Google Plus update, which I’m cross posting.
Had a strange thing happen recently in the ham radio shack. I got a e-mail from the local guru (thanks Bob!) that I wasn’t beaconing anything on either 70cm or 220 9600 APRS. So I started poking around and found the 70cm radio wasn’t happy. I made sure the RF was going out and then noticed the radio wasn’t TX when the TNC said it should be. After checking all the cables and settings, it appears the 9600 baud side of the data port is ‘broken’. Transmitting from the microphone OK and so is the 1200 baud side, but no go with 9600.
I had flipped things around so I was using my old trusty IC-207 for the 70cm 9600 a while ago, so it was easy to put the FT-100d back into service. In the process I finally shifted radios and TNC’s onto the new shelf to clean things up. So now the Seattle area has another 70cm/220 9600 APRS digi and iGate going. I also broke down and ordered a Alinco DR-435 to replace the FT-100D. The little Alinco’s make good data radios, easy to setup and they are nearly silent. (All the others end up having these fans running all the time)
