Dayton Ham Fest
In the ham radio world, Dayton is the end all, be all of ham fests. All the manufactures attend, lots of people you will just never see anywhere else and the flea market is pretty damn big. My first time going (which was only four years ago) was interesting. I can remember reading about it when I was a kid and hoping that I’d get to go at some point. Seems weird to me that was now 25 years ago.
So I’ll be attending again next month, I noticed that we are just three weeks away now. I’ll be working in the Icom America booth and I just found out that I’ll be talking about the IC-80AD. This will be my third time working in the Icom booth, the last two years I covered products that I knew pretty well and used personally. This year I’m moving up to a “new” product and I’ll be on the handheld side of the booth, which gets quite a bit more traffic.
To prepare for the whole thing, Icom is sending me a complete radio outfit to play with so I know what I’m talking about. Kind of cool to get free toys to play with, I had to admit that I’m really looking forward to digging into the new D-Star radio. I just hope that I’ll be able to pry it away from Rosie, she really has a thing about handhelds. I think she had three at one point.
