Adjustment to the radio console….
I ended up having some time this afternoon and on a random fluke decided to ‘fix’ a problem that has been bugging me for a while. When I did the original radio installs in the FJ, I choose a ‘poor’ location for the D700. I didn’t think I spent much time looking at the display, so I put it somewhere out of eye sight. This ended up being a bad decision, because it really is something you look at quite often. I had recently switched out the iPhone docking station and needed to tweak its location, so I just pulled everything out and started over.
I had the ID880 already mounted on the dash, using the very cool solution from ProClip. (I highly recommend these guys, they make good stuff) Originally I had the iPhone mounted to the right of the ID880, but that blocked the console gauges. So I had flipped them around several weeks ago. Today while staring at it, I decided the D700 would also fit up there.
I ultimately attached the little metal bracket the ID880 attaches to with magnets, to the bottom half of the D700 head bracket. Then I flipped the bracket around and attached it to the ProClip. Everything is now up at eye level and only the clock in the dash is partially blocked. There is the problem of the vent behind all of the this stuff, but that was always a problem. (I just turn the vent off)
