I retired the Linksys BEFSR41 router
I woke up this morning feeling like crap and decided to take a personal day. So I spent a couple hours generating the TPS reports for work and then zoned out the rest of the day. Part of the zoning out was retiring the little Linksys router I’ve been using for eight or nine years. I screwed up and updated its firmware a couple weeks ago and since then it has been locking up about every two days. So I finally decided to just yank it and put the WRT54G. I was quite surprised, the upgrade took all of 10 minutes and was painless.
Of course a couple hours later the main server box decided to roll over. I’m not sure what happen, I quite possibility could have done something because I was moving cables/machines around in the closet. But the net result was that I couldn’t SSH into it and the video card on it stopped working a while ago. I finally managed to login and shutdown the box (with any video) and pulled it apart. No clue on the video card, it was just dead. Non of my stock pile of old cards were working, so it was off to Fry’s to buy a cheap video card. After spending $30 bucks for a card and another $25 for 1G stick of RAM, the box was happy again. (I can’t believe how cheap RAM is now)
