My move to digital is going faster and faster….
I got a Kindle for my birthday, but didn’t think it would radically change things for me. I had been using the Kindle app on my iPhone since it came out and liked it. But that little bigger screen made just enough of a difference that I decided to try some experiments. The first was getting a technical book, which I knew I wasn’t going to need for more then a couple months. I was able to read it on the trip to LA last month and get out of it what I needed for a project without having to lug around the physical book. Now when I need to reference it, I just pull it up on my Mac at home or what ever device is handy. (Yes, the Kindle app is out now for the Mac. I’ve been using it for a while and it works pretty good)
I’ve already canceled all my pending fiction book orders and switched them to Kindle orders. (pre-release orders) I already picked up another Ruby book I wanted in the Kindle format and have been converting all my PDF stuff to it. Now I’m considering picking up another technical book, which I know I’ll need for a while in the digital form. I just can’t see the down side. I can make bookmarks just like I normally do with stickies. I can actually search it, which is huge benefit. Plus I have them with me all the time!
