Letter To Leo Laporte:
I’m a huge Twit fan. But damn it Leo are starting to annoy me. You started adding ads, which I got and it wasn’t that big of deal with how you slipped them into the shows. Then you started adding more ads, now most shows have three of them, which was OK. But damn it, now your limiting the podcasts. Gone are the days when MacBreak Weekly would go 90 minutes plus, now it is rare to get a full hour. And that is with the three couple minute ads….
One of the radio clubs I belong to finally moved their website to a host which allows you to-do something besides post straight html. Somewhere the web master got the idea I could actually program, so I got looped in on trying to automate some of the pages which are a pain to generate. (Lists of scores from contests and stuff like that) Initially I was going to use PHP, because I thought that was the new sexy tool (along with mySQL), but I guess I’m out of touch. The other person who is helping out said they’d really rather use ruby.
So I’m sitting on the couch last night and downloaded a couple of the video’s from the ruby on rails site. I sitting here watching them and following along on my Macbook. I can’t believe how damn simple it is to build stuff. This shit is really amazing. The other thing I couldn’t believe, I didn’t have to install anything on my mac, everything appears to come standard with OSX, even the development stuff.
So on another topic, I’ve discovered that the only “quiet” time I get anymore is after Rosie and Isaac have gone to bed. I’ve sort of noticed / heard that to be the case from other people, but never really got it until right now. Maybe it is just what happens when your old, married and have kids?
I have a little guy asleep on top of me in the only cool part of the house – temp outside is 96
Another day of near 90degree temps, not one but two car fires on I-5 and I’m to tired to actually go to sleep.
My garden has finally started producing fruit, picked a handful of tomatoes tonight.
Really long day at work, lots of stress from management wanting to many things after months of asking the teams to give 150%.
This weekend is the company picnic, which is lots of fun for Isaac
My sister / brother-n-law are coming up tomorrow night for a Seahawks game and will be crashing here.
I’ve given up the caps lock key on all my machines and converted it to the control key. I’m almost use to it now.
I’ve given up for now on learning java and moved to ruby. I also finally have a real project to work on, which will probably make the task easier.

Second day the buses are screwed up!
I woke up this morning feeling like crap and decided to take a personal day. So I spent a couple hours generating the TPS reports for work and then zoned out the rest of the day. Part of the zoning out was retiring the little Linksys router I’ve been using for eight or nine years. I screwed up and updated its firmware a couple weeks ago and since then it has been locking up about every two days. So I finally decided to just yank it and put the WRT54G. I was quite surprised, the upgrade took all of 10 minutes and was painless.
Of course a couple hours later the main server box decided to roll over. I’m not sure what happen, I quite possibility could have done something because I was moving cables/machines around in the closet. But the net result was that I couldn’t SSH into it and the video card on it stopped working a while ago. I finally managed to login and shutdown the box (with any video) and pulled it apart. No clue on the video card, it was just dead. Non of my stock pile of old cards were working, so it was off to Fry’s to buy a cheap video card. After spending $30 bucks for a card and another $25 for 1G stick of RAM, the box was happy again. (I can’t believe how cheap RAM is now)
