So far I've heard two branches break free. (Lucky, we don't have any branches really close to our house)
This afternoon I also checked on the generator and got the downstairs gas fireplace all prepped. With gas heat and gas water heater, we can hide out in the downstairs quite comfortably if we do lose power.

While the rest of the world seems to be protesting SOPA (and I already sent my letters against it), those of us living in the general Seattle area are dealing with a slightly different kind of problem today.
Seattle just doesn't do well with snow, but my son doesn't seem to mind it so much….

I have a bad feeling about making it to work in the morning.

So broken pipes are fixed and snow has mostly melted in lowlands. But more is predicted for tonight.
So on top of the wonderful snow covering the ground, we woke up yesterday to a broken water pipe downstairs. The leak wasn't to bad when I discovered it and with a combination of turning the water off and strategically placed cups, we made it through the night. (The emergency plumber couldn't make it to our house yesterday)
The plumbers just left, it wasn't one leak, but two! These stupid little j-hook nail things they used in the 70's to hold the pipes had worn the holes. The 40+ years of the pipes contracting and expanding had worn holes in both places the j-hook was touching.
So now I have a nice hole in the ceiling of our downstairs and from what I can tell, about 8 more of those j-hooks to remove. But the leaks are fixed and the damp ceiling will dry. Lucky the leaks were located right next to the main heating duct that runs the length of the house. It should dry things out really quick!

Snowed in today and dealing with a busted water pipe. So bad yesterday, the emergency plumber couldn’t make it.
Just had Win7 decide to reboot after auto-installing some updates without giving me any warning. Only lost about 10 minutes of the wiki I was editing, but still pissed me off.
Yes, I should have turned off the auto-update. I haven't really used this machine that much, since it was purchased to-do PSK31 during Field Day last year. Yes, I should have been editing thing on my mac. But I was documenting how to set something up in Windows and it was nice to be able to flip to the config screen of the program.
Sigh. Off to TKD practice and then WetNet breakfast. (So I can undo all the good of the TKD :-)

I just upgraded the main server at home from Ubuntu 9 something to 10.04, I started getting the "no longer supported" errors when trying to install stuff. What is interesting is how painless it turned out to be, took about 1.5 hours, but other then hitting yes a couple times, it took care of everything.
I figured there was a 50/50 chance I'd be flattening the box and starting over. I figure there was another 50/50 chance that if the box did come back up, that I'd be able to 'recover' it enough not to need a complete re-install. Guess I'll go work on some other project… :-)
