Doctor office for Isaac
So the whole family stayed home today. Isaac has a nasty cold, poor little guy’s nose is running and he has a horrible cough. He finally crashed around 3PM and is still asleep. Rosie is crashed on the couch with him right now.
I’ve been bouncing between work and taking care of them. Feel bad for Isaac, he still hasn’t mastered blowing his nose. I’m now scanning receipts for our FSA and listening to the traffic net on 80m.
So last night was the first time in almost a week that I could get into our drive way without 4×4 due to the ice on the road. Most of Seattle was clear by Monday night, but our house is just high enough and has so little traffic on our street, the last couple blocks were still pretty nasty Wednesday morning.
Then I wake up to snow storm 2008. The freeways are a mess, its dumped a couple inches here and I’m sure there is plenty of ice under that from all stuff that unfroze last night. Rosie tried to go to work this morning and got as far as the starbucks at the bottom of the hill and turned around.
Seattle got hit with a little snow storm this weekend. We had snow start coming down on Friday night, but it wasn’t really until Saturday that it really hit. Like in the past, getting six blocks from our house to the bottom of the hill is nasty. Pretty much like trying to drive on a ice skating ring which is angled down.
There is no way Rosie’s car is going any where until things start melting, so tomorrow everybody is going in the Pathfinder.
I stayed home today, taking an extra day to burn through some of my PTO. I have been bumping up against the cap all year, so I have been pre-loading vacation. The only downside is that I’m normally back against the cap by the time the vacation actually rolls around. What I need to-do is take a couple weeks, but that has been hard. My new boss actually suggested taking the week of Christmas and the week after this year, maybe I’ll do that.
Anyhow, today was productive. I got the MythTV installation to actually show TV on the screen. I had wanted to only run the backend on my desktop, because I don’t plan on watching anything there, but it appears MythTV doesn’t like that much. I finally caved, installed the frontend and then walked through the same directions a couple times until it started working. I’m pretty sure it had nothing to-do with the card/drivers and everything to-do with getting the right sequences of defaults picked. But as soon as the option to scan the channels un-ghosted, everything started working. Now I need to give it a real antenna, a set of rabbit ears in the basement, pointing the wrong way just isn’t going to cut it.
I also got some radio stuff done, but nothing much in the success area. I need to locate a service monitor which has a deviation meter. Everybody says that is what you need to align a 9600 baud UHF modem and I’m tired of trying to-do it without one. I also got the back brakes done on the Pathfinder, but that was more dropping off the car and waiting.
